Bang Krachao

Bang Krachao

Bang Krachao is sometimes spelled Bang Krajao and is located in Phra Pradaeng province. It was once home to a small Burmese population when they first arrived in Thailand. Bang Krachao can be identified on a map as a horseshoe; an island-like area separated from the mainland by the Chao Phraya River. This green paradise can only be reached by boat or ferry. With laws against building commercial buildings or factories, Bang Krachao needs to be better commercially developed. Possible – preservation of culture and natural environment.

Locals living in traditional Thai wooden houses, motorbikes, and bicycles replace cars, and concrete seems strange! The locals live a leisurely life and show us the more relaxed side of island life. Krachao may seem small, but there’s a lot to explore. Just rent a bike and choose a path! From traditional Thai temples and old houses to scenic landscapes and unique wildlife, this place has something for every traveler. Due to its proximity to Bangkok, you can even be back at your hotel before dark!

Bang Krachao Cycling

Bang Krachao is one of the few places in Bangkok where you won’t find cars. The streets and sidewalks here are designed for two-wheeled vehicles such as bicycles or scooters. When you arrive at Bang Krachao from the pier, you will find many shacks and shops where you can rent bikes. As the Phra Pradaeng area is prone to flooding, locals live in houses built on stilts. Most walkways and bridges are elevated.

It can seem daunting to walk or bike these seemingly fragile paths when you know there’s nothing but water underneath, but you’ll be amazed at how confident the locals are on their scooters at 80km/h whizzing by. With a bit of practice and determination, you’ll be riding like them in no time. Of course, remember to be careful!

Sri Nakhon Khuean Khan Park and Botanical Gardens

Much of the greenery in this place can be attributed to the Sri Nakhon Khuean Khan Park and Botanical Gardens. From expansive lakes and lush flora to picnic areas and bike trails, it’s a paradise. The best part is that it’s accessible to the public. The lake is home to many species of fish, and you are allowed to buy and feed fish food at the stalls. Bicycles are allowed inside, but you must park your motorbikes outside in the car park.

Overall, this is a peaceful area (like most of Bang Krachao) where you can enjoy quiet time and fresh air. This is, of course, only sometimes the case. Sri Nakhon Khuean Khan Park and Botanical Gardens are home to many exotic birds and insects and can be noisy sometimes. It’s a popular attraction for bird watchers, who enjoy marveling at the many winged creatures in the park. Khuean Khan Park and Botanical Gardens for a natural rainforest!

Bangkok Tree House

As you cycle through this area, you will likely come across a beautiful small building that seems to be the only sign of modern construction in Bang Krachao. This place called Bangkok Tree House is an eco-friendly boutique hotel. With three floors of glass walls and wood paneling on stilts, it is one of the most luxurious accommodation options in the area. Of course, with an air-conditioned restaurant serving Thai fusion cuisine and vegan options, it’s also open to those looking for rest and energy. The Bangkok Tree House is right on the river.

Although air-conditioned rooms are on the first floors, the main attraction is the upper decks. Here you will find open-air rooms that offer spectacular views of the Bang Krachao River and the surrounding greenery. Prices may be a bit higher, but you’re paying for the idea and overall top-notch experience at this place.
