Bang Pae

Bang Pae

Among Phuket’s famous waterfalls is the scenic Bang Pae Falls east of town in Khao Phra Thaeo National Park. Tourists enjoy a relaxing walk to the falls and have fun in the shallow streams. There are also a couple of excellent seafood restaurants to grab a bite at. Bang Pae Waterfall is a popular recreation spot in Khao Phra Thaeo National Park in Thalang. Locals often visit the waterfall for picnics and swimming during the rainy season.

Many restaurants are near the car park, by the lake, and outside the front gates. It’s the largest waterfall in Phuket but a relatively small affair by international standards. Visitors keep returning to appreciate the cool water, shade, and exotic setting. The adjacent hills and landscapes are explored by many local hikers.

Bang Pae Waterfall highlights

It’s truly a sight to see this 10-meter-high waterfall in Phuket during the rainy season. If you visit between December and May, things slow down a little bit, but you can still “go local” and cool yourself in one of their plunge pools or the main drop. Because the terrain can be slick, it is preferable to wear sturdy footwear. If you want to arrive in the late afternoon, bring insect repellent. The Gibbon Rehabilitation Center is located in the Khao Phra Thaeo National Park.

Although they are in cages, you must not get too close to them. Walk past the restaurants and food stalls and follow a 10-minute trail to Bang Pae Waterfall.

Entrance to the national park for foreigners costs about 200 baht. Keep the ticket as you need it later to visit other parks on the same day. The parking fee for motorcycles starts at 20 baht and 30 baht for cars. The trail has some concrete reinforcements but is still physically demanding. You must duck under fallen logs and go down quite slippery paths through the jungle.

Ton Sai Waterfall is another equally famous waterfall on the other side of the hill. It takes about 20 minutes by car to get there from Bang Pae Waterfall. Give it a try if you have time. You can use the same ticket to enter Ton Sai.

How to get to Bang Pae:

On the way to the airport (from Phuket Town), turn right at the “Heroines Monument” roundabout and drive about 10 km. Keep your eyes to the left, is stated, along with the ‘Gibbon Rehabilitation Center. Then drive another 3 km, and you will find the entrance to the national park.

Bang Pae Waterfall:

Bang Pae Waterfall is easy to get to and park and doesn’t require a long or difficult hike. You will likely see Thai teenagers and families playing in the creek along the way. Waterfalls in Thailand are always a great weekend attraction. You won’t find a large pond or lake to swim in, just a beautiful medium-sized waterfall worth photographing. The nearest more enormous waterfalls for bathing would be in Phang Nga or Khaosok.

Next to the parking lot, you can have a break in some local restaurants that sell a lot of drinks.
