Chiang Mai First Night

Chiang Mai First Night

The popular family destination in Chiang Mai. It is the first night safari in Thailand with a tram ride where guests can get close to the animals while they are active at night. Chiang Mai Night Safari is reopening after the extended closure due to COVID-19. Some activities, such as animal feeding, have been temporarily halted until further notice. The zoo is open from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm (The last entry is 21:00).

A scenic day hike called the Jaguar Trail winds around the lake and passed the most popular animal enclosures, but the best time to visit Chiang Mai Night Safari is probably after dark. The night area is divided into two zones, the Savanna Safari Zone and the Predator Prowl Zone, both open daily from 6 pm.

There are two shows per night, one at 8 pm. and another at 9 pm and many visitors consider it one of the highlights of their visit. This is a stunning display set on the grounds of a massive fountain with cascading water, combined with bright light and sound effects to create a spectacular audiovisual experience.

Each day, two periods are available, namely Day Safari and Night Safari. Access to Day Safari is cheaper. However, Night Safari has three shows included in the price. So we suggest you come at night if you want a complete night safari experience in Chiang Mai.

How do I get there?

Most people will use their private car to get to Chiang Mai Night Safari. It takes about 20 minutes by car from Chiang Mai city, and there is no direct public transport to this destination. You can hire a red pick-up taxi, the price can vary and be negotiable, but the cost can be high since the route is out of the service area, and there are additional charges if you are a foreign tourist. The other option is the Grab mobile app, which allows you to call a private car to pick you up at your current location and drop you off at your destination.

The price of a Grab car is around THB 150-200 one way, which is not too much if you travel with 3-4 people. There is a taxi rank next to the parking lot on the way back. The red taxi costs THB 300 back to Chiang Mai, and you can share with another traveller, but you have to wait until it is complete, depending on when you leave. You may have better chances if you arrive early and leave early.

For a Grab Car, you have to wait in front of the Giraffe restaurant, which is quite dark, but it’s the only place where the driver can pick you up (the main entrance is blocked, so you have to go to that place).

What time should I arrive?

The night patrol starts at 17:00. We recommend you arrive at this time as there are few people, and the evening light is perfect for photographing people and animals.

After buying the ticket online at Ticket2Attraction, you will receive the travel voucher you can save on your smartphone. Once you arrive at Chiang Mai Night Safari, the check-in staff will provide the schedule showing you which activity to do first.
