Freedom Beach in Phuket
Freedom Beach in Phuket is a 300-meter white sand beach near Patong. The beach is located in a magnificent bay dotted with granite boulders and surrounded by hills covered with the dense jungle: accessibility but worth the effort. Besides sunbathing, you can enjoy beach soccer (there are two mini-goals available), beach volleyball, and snorkeling in the area. The shallow waters at either end of the beach are home to excellent living.
There are no jet skis or noisy water activities at Freedom Beach – the only audible engines are those of longtail boats in the distance.
How to get to Freedom Beach
A jetty at the southern end of Patong Beach has long tail boats that can take you to Freedom Beach. It usually costs around 1,100-1,500 baht for a round trip. It’s pretty expensive as it only takes 10 minutes to get there, but it’s the only option for those who can’t handle the physically demanding walk to the beach. There are two ways to get to the Freedom Beach car park, which is about 200 meters above the bay. Coming from the southern end of Patong Bay, follow the road up the hill, turn left onto Amari Coral Beach, pass Baan Yin Dee Resort, and at the bottom of the hill, turn left onto Avista Hideaway Resort, which is 700 meters from the Freedom beach car park.
The other entrance on the same road/path is just before the top of Patong Hill, on the Patong to Karon Beach road. Coming from Patong, the road to Freedom Beach car park is on the right-hand side, just after Rasta Baby Bar (on the left-hand side of the road).
Highlights of Freedom Beach in Phuket
Freedom Beach has two distinct areas separated by the extended tail boat landing area. The north side of the beach is arguably the best place to lay out your sun towel. If you want to take lovely photos, climb the concrete stairs to enjoy a panoramic view of the beach from the hilltop.
Longtail boats to Freedom Beach
Everyone embarks from the floating pontoon once they agree on the price and the fun ride begins. The pilot chooses the best route, so don’t be surprised if you see him drifting away from your destination; He knows best how to get you there without making you dizzy or drenched. Most of the time, you’ll probably get splattered. So if you’re carrying sensitive electronics, keep them in a plastic bag or on your back. To get to the beach, you cross several hidden but busy sandy bays: Merlin Beach, Paradise Beach, and Tri Trang Beach, to finally get closer to this little paradise. Depending on the weather, a few longtail boats moor at the beach, and few people are already enjoying this secluded haven.
You have to jump into the shallow water to disembark, but you won’t be harmed since you’re already in your bathing suit. Just don’t drop your camera or mobile phone.
