Kaeng Krachan National Park is one of the most beautiful parks on the outskirts of Hua Hin, considered a tourist city in Thailand. The park is the largest in the entire exotic country and continues Myanmar’s Tanintharyi Nature Reserve, just under a two-hour drive from Bangkok. The park occupies a 2,915 square meter lushly forested area home to tremendous biodiversity and is one of the country’s most popular tourist attractions. The towering mountain, spectacular waterfalls and dark caves in Kaeng Krachan National Park make it a natural area worth visiting. Geography & History of Kaeng Krachan National Park

Kaeng Krachan National Park was designated Thailand’s 28th national park after being upgraded to a protected forest in 1981. The park stretches across the eastern slopes of the Tenasserim range, which includes a dense jungle teeming with wildlife. The mountain’s highest peak is unprepared for visitors due to its proximity to Myanmar. At the same time, tourists visit the second-highest height of Khao Phanoen Thung for the spectacular views of the jungle below. The Pranburi and Phetchaburi rivers flow through the national park, with the latter bounded by the Kaeng Krachan Dam, built in 1966. It was also included in the list of ASEAN Heritage Parks with the addition of the border region between Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan provinces in 1984.

Location:

Kaeng Krachan National Park is located between the provinces of Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan, right on the border between Thailand and Myanmar. Travelling to the park in a private vehicle is best as the area is vast and requires extensive driving. You can hire a private taxi for THB2000 from Hua Hin. Tips:

  • It is best to avoid the summer months due to excessive heat. 
  • A permit is required for hiking through the forested area of ​​the park. 
  • It is advisable to hire guides or rangers during the trek. It is forbidden to go into the jungle after sunset.
