Designed by famed interior designer Ashley Sutton, Maggie Choo’s pub is inspired by 1950s Shanghai. It has some of the best decorations, including stone sculptures, brick walls, heavy steel doors, leather and velvet sofas, old paintings and dim lighting. Each night. Maggie Choo’s Bar is part of the Novotel Bangkok Silom Road Hotel. It can be hard to spot – you enter the bar through a small ancient Chinese wooden door in front of the hotel. A flight of stairs leads you to a small Cantonese restaurant reminiscent of Prohibition-era Shanghai in the 1930s. The bar is behind a black curtain on the side of the restaurant, adding to its elegant theme—walls and busts of Queen Victoria.
From 10 pm, the atmosphere changes with live jazz music, with big-name artists performing on the weekends. DJs and rock bands often perform at Maggie Choo’s Bar, which attracts a mixed crowd.
