There are many options for foreigners to visit Thailand.

For stays of up to 30 days, certain nationalities may enter the country under the bilateral visa waiver agreement. This program is open to 64 races from around the world. If someone does not qualify for the visa waiver, they can apply for a 15-day visa upon arrival.

What is a Single Entry Tourist Visa for Thailand?

A single-entry tourist visa allows foreign nationals a single entry into Thailand for tourism, leisure or medical purposes. It’s perfect for relaxing or taking a Muay Thai or scuba diving course. By air, land or sea. The visa is valid for three months from the date of approval. This means that people have three months from the date of their visa approval to use and enter Thailand.

People often confuse validity and how long they can stay in Thailand. Reality is how long you use or must use the visa. A 60-day permit stamp will be placed in your passport upon arrival in Thailand, allowing a visitor to enter on the last day of their validity period and still receive a full 60-day permit.

How to apply for a Single Entry Tourist Visa

  • A current passport with at least six months of validity and at least two blank pages.
  • Applicants must complete online visa applications using first and last names as they appear on their passports
  • Printout of online submitted visa application form with barcode Confirmation of travel booking Proof of accommodation in Thailand e.gHotel reservation, letter of invitation from a relative or friend in Thailand

  • E-Visa applicants are not required to present their original passport and supporting documents in person at a Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate. After the e-Visa application is approved, a confirmation email will be sent to the applicants. It is a good idea to print a copy of the confirmation email to Thai airlines and immigration officials when traveling to Thailand. Certain countries are not eligible to apply for an e-Visa as additional documents are required for approval.
  • Suppose you are unsure about your eligibility for an online visa or do not have access to the online application process. In that case, you can contact your local Thai embassy and make an appointment. Many embassies do not allow walk-ins, and immigration regulations can change without notice, so it is best to contact them beforehand and confirm what documents you will need to provide.

Minimum documents needed:

  • Completed and signed visa application form Proof of travel booking Proof of Financial accommodation evidence.

Visa Cost

A single-entry tourist visa may vary from country to country, but the estimated cost is $30 to $50. It is important to note that many embassies only accept payments in USD. Please confirm the price and currency upon your first inquiry to your local embassy or consulate. If you apply online, the e-Visa system will confirm the payment due and process it through its secure payment gateway.

Assistance with Visa Applications

The application process is simple, and you can do it yourself. If you want to confirm that the documents are correct or get approval without having to go back and forth to embassy appointments, you can hire the services of a Visa Assistance agent. These agents know all current immigration regulations and can confirm the correct information before submitting your application. They will communicate with embassies and consulates on your behalf.

Agents charge a fee for their service, but they often save you time and money in the long run.

You can streamline your application process and speed up your approval. Agents can help you with online applications, although you may need to pay the visa fee directly through the secure e-Visa payment gateway.

Tourist Visa Restrictions

As mentioned above, single-entry tourist visas are for tourism, leisure or medical purposes only. Foreigners could not earn income, study long-term or volunteer in Thailand if they entered on a tourist visa. Intends to engage in any of the above activities; long-term visa options are available. You can contact your local Thai embassy to discuss options or contact a visa agent to apply for a long-stay visa.

Authorization of entry is at the discretion of immigration officials, and submitting paper copies of these documents will expedite your processing through passport control and help reduce airport congestion.

Extending your Tourist Visa

For some people, 60 days is never enough. If you enjoy your stay in Thailand, it is possible to extend your stay. Visitors with a single-entry tourist visa can extend their stay in the country by 30 days by visiting a local—Thailand Immigration Service. An extension of stay costs 1,900 Thai baht and must be paid in cash (Thai baht) when applying for the extension. You must visit the office before your tourist visa expires.

Staying in the country beyond the departure date will result in an “overstay,” and you will be fined 500 baht per day after the official departure date. An overage will be noted on your passport and may affect future visa applications. This extension of stay is only possible if you are inside the country.
